Tonight's episode is titled "Belly of the Beast." Looks like Anika is a
big control freak which pisses off Sam. Sounds like they haven't even
used their fishing gear yet because people are too busy bitching about
the conditions.

There's also supposed to be another journey which impacts the game.

More later...

A few thoughts on E03:

-through the first two episodes, it seemed that Jerome was getting the
“Quintavius edit”
ie lots of confessionals during which he bragged endlessly about his
strategic prowess,
and scenes of him acting like a doofus around camp. However, based on what we
saw
in E03, he likely has a lot more game than what I had initially believed. The
fact that he
appeared to be included in The Doctor’s “core four” is something that I
had not expected,
and seeing him talk strategy without acting like an ass was refreshing.

-the “journey” segment hit a new Survivor low in terms of allowing
complete chance and luck
to influence the game. FWIW, Anika and Kyle should have taken a second pull
as they really
had nothing more to lose.

-again, there was way too much Probst blather at the immunity challenge. It
seems as
if he has been slowly turning the end of each challenge into a mini-tribal
council. The
viewing audience does not need to hear how the members of the losing tribe
are feeling
after their defeat.

-when the Canadian woman lets her hair down she looks a fair bit like Kim
Spradlin.

-Aysha couldn’t have played TC much worse, and got what she deserved. The
Doctor and
Teenie offered her “a life line” and she took a pass. I get that she felt
a sense of loyalty
towards Solomon, but voting for him would have kept her in the game. Then, at
the end
of TC, she had the cojones to diss The Doctor and the Canadian for making the
obvious
move.

-I am assuming that Teenie told The Doctor that she was going to break ranks
at the vote.

-Andy’s “winner’s edit” has begun. :-)

I take it you're talking about Rome. I still find him annoying but he's
definitely smarter than I thought he was in the premiere episode. He's
also lucky. Getting the "Steal a Vote" advantage from the Journey will
come in handy as it sounds like there's no expiry on it other than
probably F5. Or did I miss something?

I thought it was funny when Kishan referenced Q but was surprised when
he messed at TC and made that "Core Four" comment. I have a feeling that
Teeny is going to be having a talk with him when they get back to camp.

I agree that was crazy they didn't have to do anything to gain an
advantage. A second pull could have resulted in two lost votes which is
too risky with so few people voting.

He seems to think we do! I thought that was a good challenge. Andy
lucked out that his tribemates saved him because he sucked after selling
them on that he could easily do any phase of the challenge.

Rachel impressed me on the puzzle. I hope she goes far.

have shown Jeff and the medical team tending to someone.

Not only that, but if that were human blood and something serious
happened to a player, a family-friendly network like CBS would probably
not show it. I'm sure this is a mis-direct.

There was little damage done as I’m sure that Solomon
knew who he was talking about. I’m glad the comment
was left in the edit.

There would also be a 50/50 chance that Kyle and/or
Anika could get their vote back. But, tbh, I found that
whole segment boring as hell.

Yes, he really struggled on the first leg, but Rachel and Anika made
up for it as they blazed through the puzzle.

Rob had to have been disappointed on how she handled things. She seemed
hellbent on voting out Gen instead of worrying about her own safety.
I think that it may be possible that she was misreading how the other
players on her tribe were aligned. She may not have realized that
Teenie/Doctor/Jerome/Canadian were working together as a foursome.
Instead she might have viewed them as split into two pairs, one of
which she was obsessed with breaking up.
But, with all that said, she just wasn’t a very good player. She also
got lost in the jungle in E01 allowing TK to easily claim reward for his
tribe.

Ha! If she didn’t, she is going to have a lot of explaining to do

A second pull could have resulted in two lost votes which is
too risky with so few people voting.
There would also be a 50/50 chance that Kyle and/or
Anika could get their vote back. But, tbh, I found that
whole segment boring as hell.
If Anika and/or Kyle drew the advantage note on their second pull did
that also return their lost vote?

He seems to think we do! I thought that was a good challenge. Andy
lucked out that his tribemates saved him because he sucked after selling

Yes, he really struggled on the first leg, but Rachel and Anika made
up for it as they blazed through the puzzle.

Rob had to have been disappointed on how she handled things. She seemed

She also
got lost in the jungle in E01 allowing TK to easily claim reward for his
tribe.
She overthought things and didn't seem to want to trust anyone.

I wondered the same thing. I read the note carefully when it was on the
screen and it was ambiguous. The exact wording says:

THERE ARE THREE PACKAGES INSIDE THIS BAG

YOU MUST PICK ONCE.

IF YOU PICK A LOSE YOUR VOTE YOU HAVE THE OPTION TO RISK AGAIN AND
CHOOSE ANOTHER PACKAGE.

IF YOU PICK A SECOND LOSE YOUR VOTE, YOU CANNOT VOTE FOR YOUR NEXT TWO
TRIBAL COUNCILS AND YOU MAY NOT PICK AGAIN.

WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED RETURN TO YOUR TRIBE CAMP.

It's interesting that it doesn't explicitly say that if you pick LOSE
YOUR VOTE the first time you can't vote at the next Tribal Council, but
I guess that's understood. And nowhere does it say that if you pick a
second time and get the advantage that it cancels the first LOSE YOUR
VOTE. I wonder if this is another case where there is some off-camera
discussion where they explain the task, as they do with the challenges,
and whether there is a more detailed document they have to read that
explains this in detail. I'm thinking that must be the case.

crazy that taking a second pull should negate the results of the first
pull. I can see us getting blindsided down the road thanks to the lack
of clarity given to us as viewers.

I deliberately ignore all previews because of showing too much. I still
can't believe they did a preview once that gave away that TC was going
to end in a tie vote that would lead to rocks.

I don't know if they still do it, but Amazing Race has occasionally done
a season preview during the first episode where they would say something
like "This season on the Amazing Race..." and then they would show
scenes from future episodes that would totally give away that certain
teams would still be around and would be in scenes that you could
remember so you knew they wouldn't be eliminated before those scenes
were shown. I'm glad Survivor doesn't seem to do that (or if they do,
I've successfully ignored it).

TAR was trying to highlight the locations the racers would be visiting.
Their big mistake was assuming we didn't know the order the racers would
be visiting the locations. This along with sightings made it easy to
determine who was eliminated in most legs of a race.

FYI, Rome did draw a map of Asia on his voting parchment.

Not a problem for me. There are other sources that can be
consulted to find out how each player voted, and I see what is
written on each parchment when Probst reads the votes.
During the “old school” seasons, I used to skip the previews,
and just watch the booted players’ final words, but haven’t
done that for a long time.

What I do is just mute the volume on the "Next time on Survivor" part
and then turn it on again when the voted out player talks. I have to be
alert with this now because they've started doing the preview a beat
before Jeff says the words.

Something else I do is skip through the part where they show contestants
voting, since I don't want to hear anyone's comments, don't want to see
anyone's vote early and prefer the reading of the votes by Jeff to be a
complete surprise. It still annoys me that on the final vote for season
one, they actually showed all the votes while everyone was voting except
for Greg's. So even before Jeff started reading the votes, we already
knew it would be 4-3.

And, IIRC, Greg based his vote on the responses that he got from
Hatch and Kelly to his “pick a number between one and ten” question.
I liked Greg and his sardonic attitude towards the rituals of the game,
but thought that he took it too far with the “pick a number” thing.

Then, at

obvious
move.

I agree with you about the excessive blather from Sir Jeff. I think he
probably always does this but they usually just don't show it. It's
like at TC where he pretty much asks everyone the same questions but
they selectively only show what makes for good air time.

When they first started with the 90-minute episodes, they were producing
for it and including more, and more increasingly complex activities.
But lately they seem to just be padding the episodes with footage that
would normally be cut. I hate to say it but the show is starting to
become a bit of a parody of itself.

Speaking of parodies, here's a random question. I haven't watched SNL
in literally decades, but I'm sure that show must have parodied Survivor
at one time or another. Anyone know what their take was, what
contestants were parodied and who they got to play Jeff?

I agree with you about the excessive blather from Sir Jeff. I think he
probably always does this but they usually just don't show it.
Excellent point! In the traditional 60 minute episodes, there wouldn’t
be enough time to include excessive Probstblather.
When they first started with the 90-minute episodes, they were producing
for it and including more, and more increasingly complex activities.
But lately they seem to just be padding the episodes with footage that

I agree. The argument between Sam and Anika about the clothesline,
and the previously discussed “journey” segment are two examples
of the “padding” that was used to fill up the 90 minutes in E03.
Speaking of parodies, here's a random question. I haven't watched SNL
in literally decades, but I'm sure that show must have parodied Survivor
at one time or another. Anyone know what their take was, what

In 2016, SNL did a very good parody of the “loved ones visit” segment
that used to be a part of every Survivor season. I don’t know the names
of the cast members who participated, so I can’t tell you who played the
role of Probst. However it was very well written, and even included
the "old school" gimmick of showing the players videos of their family
members at home. Somebody's husband even had a creepy looking
dog in his lap just like in Sue Hawk’s video from S01. As I said, the
writers really put a lot of thought into the skit.
It is available on Youtube, but is called “100 Days in the Jungle” rather
than Survivor.

and the previously discussed “journey” segment are two examples
of the “padding” that was used to fill up the 90 minutes in E03.
I think the clothesline scene was included to build up Anika as a
control freak and to possibly foreshadow that either she takes out Sam
or he takes her out. My current sense is that her mouth is going to be
her downfall. It's also possible Sam's "not girlfriend" Sierra takes her
out.

Speaking of parodies, here's a random question. I haven't watched SNL
in literally decades, but I'm sure that show must have parodied Survivor
at one time or another. Anyone know what their take was, what
contestants were parodied and who they got to play Jeff?
The end of the "loved ones visit" is one of the few benefits as a viewer
of the 26-day long seasons.
I didn't think they ended the loved ones visit because of the shorter
season - I thought it was more a reaction to Covid and the need to
quarantine the players for so many days before filming and the fact
they'd have to do the same for the loved ones. With Covid restrictions
perhaps easing up a bit, they unfortunately might consider a return to
the loved ones visit at some point. I hope not.

-through the first two episodes, it seemed that Jerome was getting the
“Quintavius edit”
ie lots of confessionals during which he bragged endlessly about his
strategic prowess,
and scenes of him acting like a doofus around camp. However, based
on what
we
saw
in E03, he likely has a lot more game than what I had initially
believed.
The
fact that he
appeared to be included in The Doctor’s “core four” is something that I
had not expected,
and seeing him talk strategy without acting like an ass was refreshing.
I get that she felt
a sense of loyalty
towards Solomon, but voting for him would have kept her in the
game. Then,
at
the end
of TC, she had the cojones to diss The Doctor and the Canadian for
making
the
obvious
move.
-I am assuming that Teenie told The Doctor that she was going to break ranks
at the vote.
-Andy’s “winner’s edit” has begun. :-)
But lately they seem to just be padding the episodes with footage that
would normally be cut.

Canceled to keep costs down. Besides, not seeing your family for a month
is probably pretty common. They still get letters and could easily do
videos as well which should be good enough.

But
lately they seem to just be padding the episodes with footage that would
normally be cut.  I hate to say it but the show is starting to become a
bit of a parody of itself.
I think it really comes down to how much has happened during the time
period the episode is suppose to cover. CBS often asks BB to produce
longer episodes to fill schedule gaps. They can be very hit and miss. A
few weeks ago they did a 90-minute episode the night S47 premiered to
help fill the schedule. There was a ton of drama in the house at the
time and that along with breaking the usual structure for Wednesday
episodes resulted in amazing episode. Last night they did a two-hour
episode which could have been 30 minutes because nothing is happening.
I'm sure Survivor is no different.

Jeff was on SNL a few years ago!
