Paramount today announced what they will be showing in Australia/New
Zealand in 2025. We now have confirmation of Survivor: Australia v The
World. Would be nice if Paramount makes this available in North America.

Once we’ve crowned our jungle king or queen, it’s time to dust off those
buffs for not one but two strategy-stuffed seasons of Australian
Survivor. February sees a sequel of sorts to our most successful theme
show ever with Australian Survivor: Brains v Brawn II. Once again, our
two tribes are separated by smarts and strength, before battling it out
on the beaches of Samoa for the title, the glory, and half a million
dollars.

When it comes to Survivor, we Aussies reckon we’re tough as nails. We
talk the talk but now the time has come to walk the walk when our local
Survivor legends take on players from Survivor franchises around the
world in the unsurprisingly titled Survivor: Australia v The World.

Cheer on some of Australia’s most celebrated players including George,
Shonee and Kirby as they face off against superstar players from
Survivor South Africa, Norway, New Zealand, and of course the U.S.,
which will be represented by Survivor legends Parvati, Tony and Cirie.
This is a world-first event you don’t want to miss!

I'm not that big a fan of returning player seasons, but I have to admit
seeing Australia's George up against Tony from the US (two players as
wildly different as one can imagine), or Shonee against Parvati (a
player Shonee seemed to channel in a lot of ways) sounds really cool. I
hope they also include Hayley Leake from Survivor Oz, Dino, Rob and
Werner from Survivor South Africa and I guess Lisa and Avi from Survivor
NZ. I will definitely give it a watch.

Hopefully there's a way for us to watch. I imagine it's up to whoever
controls the overall Survivor empire.

I noticed no prize money amount was mentioned for this version. To
attract players like Parv you'd think it would be at least USD $1
million along with some nice upfront money. Cirie's been raking in the
money the last few years doing reality TV. If she can manage to get on
TAR she'll be the first to do all three big CBS reality shows.

In the more than 20 years I've been watching international reality
shows, I've never had any problem finding international versions of
Survivor, the Amazing Race, and most versions of the Mole. They are on
the internet if you know how to look for them. The one exception is the
one New Zealand produced season of the Mole. I was able to find episode
one, but the others are just not out there. But Survivor and TAR are
all out there.

This article from Inside Survivor is worth reading. Sounds like the
season might be just 15 days long with 14 players. If that's the case,
I'm a lot less hyped to watch. 26 day long seasons are bad enough for
limiting strategic game play time. If this version is going to be
nothing but challenges and pregame alliances, it's going to be
disappointing. If Paramount streams the episodes I'll watch but I doubt
I'll hunt for them unless the show gets amazing buzz.

I agree with you. This is very disappointing and makes it seem more
like an exhibition than an actual contest. This is more akin to I'm a
Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here than real Survivor.

Along those lines, this reminds me of when Jeff was once asked about
doing a celebrity Survivor season, and he said if they ever did it, it
would be much shorter than a regular season. He sort of implied that
most celebrities, who wouldn't need the money and would be doing it more
for show anyway, would never put up with the deprivation and stress of
an actual full season. Have we reached the point where Tony and Parv
and the others are now to be treated as pampered celebrities who can't
stand more than two weeks in the elements?

I may have to count myself on this one now.

Players like Tony would need to be offered a lot of money to play a 26
or 39 day long season. Parv also has a young daughter she probably
wouldn't want to leave for too long. IIRC, when Cirie did BB25 last year
she said The Traitors was shot over about a two week period. That is
probably why they've been able get so many big names such as Boston Rob
and Parv to do that show. Cirie won $200K(?) which is good money for
what sounds like a two week vacation.

Yes, this version of Survivor does sound like an exhibition. They need
to do what The Challenge does and have full seasons when they have
people from all over the world.
