Schoolyard Pick?

Anyone notice Jeff made a point of saying the two teams for the immunity
challenge would be chosen in a schoolyard pick, with the captains being
selected in a rock draw, but we never heard who the captains were or got
to see any of the selection process? I always find it interesting to
see how the choices are made in these cases, whether it is by perceived
strength and skill or strictly by existing relationships and alliances.
In particular, it's always kind of fun to see who ends up getting picked
last. I wish we could have seen that.

I actually thought the blue team looked stronger, as it had Rome, Gabe,
Andy, Sol, Sierra and Rachel. The yellow team had Sam, Kyle, Tiyana,
Sue, Caroline and Teeny.

Teeny said on X that she was one of the captains. This article from
Dalton reveals a ton of details.

Here's the cut schoolyard pick scene!

Wow, that's fascinating for a lot of reasons. Andy was the last pick,
which really solidifies why he was the backup to Rome going home. No
one really likes him or wants to keep him around. Sue was second last
pick, which was also expected and understandable due to her age. But I
also note that Rome was the third to last pick, which should have been a
bit of a signal about he was perceived by others. Very cool stuff!

I'm amazed they didn't include this four minute sequence in the cut for
the episode. For my money they could have easily cut out the nonsense
with Rome getting to sit in Jeff's seat, etc. - this was much more
enlightening and revealing.

I totally agree. That cut scene was pure gold in terms of player
dynamics. I thought Jeff was trying desperately to help him when he
asked Andy about how he was feeling. It was like Jeff wanted Andy to be
chosen next. Instead of being chosen, Sierra sent him a clear message
that she's tired of him causing her to lose. That had to hurt. It was
like she was saying "Andy, I have more faith in '45' year old Sue than I
do you." Rome being selected before him also had to hurt as Rome not
only sucks in challenges, he refuses to take advice that would help him
do better.

The TC nonsense could have been cut way back. Was it Caroline who said
"What's going on?" Rome explaining why the amulet twist isn't the best
adds nothing to this season as it had just been used. The schoolyard
pick will likely have huge ramifications on how this season plays out.
For example, if Andy goes after Sierra now, the TV-only crowd will have
no idea that the schoolyard pick played a big role in his decision to do so.

So why did they cut all of that but let us know that there was a
school yard pick? Seems an odd thing to skip. Especially with Andy
being last picked.

Jeff felt what happened at TC was more important. From what I can tell,
the vast majority of people disagree with him.
