Interesting fact: With 90-minute episodes, a 2-hour premiere, and the
newly-announced 2-hour penultimate episode and finale, #Survivor47 will
have the most airtime in the show's history. It will finish with 22.5
hours of content, including commercials.

CBS is probably kicking themselves for not doing this years ago. They
should have realized that the Survivor audience is loyal and has always
wanted more content. It also must be a lot cheaper to air two reality
shows back-to-back for 90 minutes each than to have them at 60 minutes
each along with a scripted drama with high-paid actors, etc.

But in fairness, the 90-minute and occasional 120-minute episodes only
really work if you have an interesting cast, and we've been fortunate to
have decent casts the last couple of seasons.. Imagine how tedious the
episodes would be on a clunker season like, say S39 or even S41. I'd be
skimming through much of the episodes if I had to watch 90 or 120
minutes of some of those episodes.

I'm pretty sure both of those seasons were a lot more interesting than
what we were shown. Both suffered from too much censorship/ass covering.

I doubt they were that much more interesting. I certainly would have no
interest in seeing longer scenes involving Dan Spilo and the other
players talking/complaining about him. Those "mentoring" scenes with
Boston Rob and Sandra also seemed kind of dumb. There is a reason S39
is at the bottom of a lot of people's season rankings.

As for S41, it was a sloppily produced season where they were still
trying to adjust to the new 26-day format and shorter season. There
were many really dumb elements, like the stupid hourglass twist that
allowed the clock to be "turned back" and the effective cancelling of an
earned reward. The cast was also kind of unlikable and I doubt if an
extra 22 minutes of airtime per episode would have really helped much.
