Tonight's episode is titled "The Last Stand" and it comes from a comment
Rachel made. In one of the sneak peek videos we see Rachel looking up at
the tars and then the camera zooms in on her eye. It's such a strong
tell that she wins that it might be a brilliant fakeout on the part of
production.

There's a promo where the jury looks shocked about something. Assuming
it's game-related, I could see the jury being shocked if Sue wins F4
immunity and then puts Sam up against Rachel in fire. If that happens,
it'll be a million dollar firemaking challenge.

More later...

Rachel was an alternate for S46! Tweet from Dalton.

I met Rachel in Fiji when she was an alternate for Survivor 46. I felt
bad that she would have no visual evidence of what could end up being
her only #Survivor experience, so I said, "Let me at least take a
picture of you out here."

A year later, she's a champion.

Not sure if this was mentioned but for the third time in the show's
history, we've had female winners for three consecutive seasons.

It wasn't mentioned on the show but they sure made a big deal out of
Rachel being the fifth woman to win four individual immunities.

And it was mildly annoying they never said who the other women were.
For the record, it was Kelly from season one, Jenna, Kim and Chrissy.

She probably forgot Jenna, who played a low-key game to win and then
quit during her only return appearance on All-Stars due to her mother's
illness. She did host a Survivor after show for a while with Dalton
Ross in the pre-RHAP days, but hasn't done much reality show stuff since
she and then-bf Ethan were first or second team out on Amazing Race 19.

Kim at least had a decent run in her return on Winners at War where she
made it to top 9.

Rachel didn't say who she thought won but Jenna was the first of the
four names she mentioned for winning four immunity challenges. Jeff, at
TC, did state that two of the four did win the game.

More after the After Show.
This was an exciting finale. I expected Rachel to win but didn’t think
it would play out the way it did. I loved the two-hour finale. Hopefully
CBS will allow them to end with two two-hour episodes going forward.

Immunity Challenge

Lots of momentum changes in this challenge. I thought Sam was going to
run away with this challenge until he unexpectedly couldn’t throw the
rope up to bring down the gate. This part of the challenge seemed
designed for him. He went from first to last. Then at the phrase part of
the challenge I was surprised at how fast Sam solved it and regained the
lead. I thought he was going to win the challenge as he seemed to be
going quickly figuring out the upside-down bat puzzle. But Rachel was
too good and came from behind to win immunity.

Back at Camp

When they were all in the ocean cleaning off, Teeny asked Rachel if she
could talk to her. Rachel did us and the editors a huge favor when she
said she would just say what she was going to do. She said she was going
to reward Sue’s loyalty and put Sam against Teeny in fire. Teeny wasn’t
happy because she thought she was going to get destroyed. Sam said he
barely touched flint the whole time they were playing and that he did
not practice before coming out. Teeny didn’t believe him.

Rachel wanted Teeny to win so she coached her on how to start a fire.
Teeny went from not being able to start a fire to starting one with no
problems. Sam sucked until he re-read the letter he got from his dad.
Then he went out into the jungle and started a huge fire the first time.

F4 Tribal Council

The firemaking challenge this season will go down as a classic and kind
of sketchy as far as I’m concerned. Teeny got her fire going very
quickly. Rachel was openly coaching her the entire time. Teeny’s rope
was on fire but would not snap. Sam took forever to get a flame going
but when he did his fire grew quickly. Then a burst of wind took Teeny’s
fire away from her rope and somehow lifted Sam’s straight up. Sam won
and Teeny was heartbroken. She had a very classy departure. It should be
noted at the start of TC, Teeny said it was all on her for her poor
relationship with Sam. She came off looking very good tonight.

Final Tribal Council

The jury had some very good questions at FTC. It might have been the
edit, but I thought not much was directed at Sue. They seemed to be
giving Rachel a lot of opportunities to confirm she was the best player
this season. Sam was very impressive. When he told the story about his
six-year-old self, I thought he had a chance to win. But Rachel
countered with an even better story about her husband.

FYI, Day 26 was Sue’s 59th birthday which she revealed to the jury. I
didn’t sense that any of them were too surprised to find out she’s not 45.

As I stated earlier, Rachel won, getting everyone’s vote except for
Kyle’s. To me it felt like Kyle would never vote for a woman unless he
had to.

After Show

I wish this had been longer. Mostly because I really enjoyed this group.

Yeah, I was surprised at how close it was, but Rachel's puzzle solving

won that fire challenge.

Being small didn't help her but your body size shouldn't be a factor in
the firemaking challenge. Did you notice who picked their station first?

Anyone else find it weird that they kept in the shots shots that Andy
and Rachel took at Ben and Mike Hollaway? Is Jeff sending a message?

That did seem odd. Especially since it won't mean much to many of the

Tonight's episode is titled "The Last Stand" and it comes from a
comment Rachel made. In one of the sneak peek videos we see Rachel
looking up at the tars and then the camera zooms in on her eye. It's
such a strong tell that she wins that it might be a brilliant fakeout
on the part of production.
There's a promo where the jury looks shocked about something.
Assuming it's game-related, I could see the jury being shocked if Sue
wins F4 immunity and then puts Sam up against Rachel in fire. If that
happens, it'll be a million dollar firemaking challenge.
More later...
Anyone else find it weird that they kept in the shots shots that Andy
and Rachel took at Ben and Mike Hollaway? Is Jeff sending a message?
That did seem odd. Especially since it won't mean much to many of the
viewers.
I found it strange that Andy brought up those two names but I guess it's
possible that they shit talk past players.

The Ben reference really caught my attention as over the last few weeks
some on X have been comparing Rachel to Ben and not in a good way. I
don't see why production would help Rachel to win and we saw no evidence
that she received help.

No, but Andy was! He knew that Rachel considered Driebergen and
Holloway to be somewhat “unworthy†winners due to the way that
each of them got to the end. Andy was trying to trick her into
acknowledging that winning challenges and finding advantages
represented the entirety of her game. I don’t blame Andy for putting
it out there, but he was wrong. Rachel got lucky with the Safety
Without Power advantage, the immunity object clue at the auction,
and with the E11 rock pull. But nobody was as determined and focused
when working on puzzles, and her choices of when to play the Block-
A-Vote, the immunity bracelet, and her SITD were perfect. But, IMO,
her best move was when she perceived that Andy was a much
bigger threat to win the game than she had realized, and made the
late decision to vote for him instead of Sam at the F6 TC.

"You were very convincing today...just not in the way you thought." That
was a killer line and a killer move that was a direct result of her
spying on Teeny, Andy, Sam, and Gen. Sam tried downplaying that move at
FTC but it was a huge moment in Rachel's game. She did have a lot of
lucky breaks, but like you said, she knew how to take advantage of those
breaks. She also put in the effort to make things happen.

This was an exciting finale. I expected Rachel to win but didn’t think
it would play out the way it did.
IMO, Rachel won S47 when Genevieve left the game. Everything
beyond that point was just her “victory lap”. :-)
Post by Brian Smith
Lots of momentum changes in this challenge.
I really wish that Production would return to the “old school”
tradition of the final immunity challenge being a test of
endurance. Instead, we saw yet another relay/puzzle which
was better suited to Sam and Rachel’s skill sets, then it was
to Leatherface and Manhater’s.
Post by Brian Smith
The firemaking challenge this season will go down as a classic and kind
of sketchy as far as I’m concerned.
So, are you saying that Production did something that gave Sam an
advantage?
Post by Brian Smith
Sam took forever to get a flame going
but when he did his fire grew quickly. Then a burst of wind took Teeny’s
fire away from her rope and somehow lifted Sam’s straight up. Sam won
and Teeny was heartbroken.
Sam kept some of his coconut husk in reserve, and, at just the right
moment, threw it on top of his burning sticks. That’s what made his
fire suddenly flare.

Well, he didn’t end up looking like an ass, so I’ll give him credit
for that. But he really didn’t have much game. He was not good
in challenges, found only one hidden advantage (which he didn’t
play), and didn’t drive any of the votes after the merge. IMO, he
relied on a succession of “meat shields”, and Andy’s strategic
brilliance, to get him into F4.
Post by Brian Smith
FYI, Day 26 was Sue’s 59th birthday which she revealed to the jury. I
didn’t sense that any of them were too surprised to find out she’s not 45.
Sam certainly looked surprised.
Post by Brian Smith
To me it felt like Kyle would never vote for a woman unless he
had to.
Heh! You may be right about that.
Post by Brian Smith
I wish this had been longer. Mostly because I really enjoyed this group.
I did too. I think that this was the best cast of the “new era”. There
were
a variety of different “types”, and only one real dick who was,
fortunately,
dismissed fairly early in the game.

Jeff will ask her back for S50.

That was Genevieve’s downfall. She came into the season with the
intention of playing a Brian Heidik/Rob Mariano (S22)/Tony Vlachos
(S28) type of game ie. play like a gamebot with no emotional
connections. But she couldn’t hold it together when her real
personality began to leak through the armour that she had built
to protect herself. I’d love to see how she might change her
approach if allowed to play a second time.

This cast was pretty big on emotional connections. It's arguably what

I actually thought it was due to "tie" - meaning, the frequency with
which the final four vote often came down to a 2-2 tie. Although they
experimented with drawing rocks to resolve this the first time it
happened in S4 (Paschal drew the colored rock and went home), they
quickly settled on a fire-making challenge to break the tie. This led
to what is perhaps the single funniest moment in the history of the show
when Becky and Sundra were the players tied in S13 and neither could
start the fire. If I am remembering correctly, after an interminable
length of time where neither woman could start the fire with flint, an
angry and frustrated Jeff ended up saying "We're gonna go to matches".
Classic.

That was a classic moment. In later seasons, how often did they have tie
votes at F4? When they implemented fire at F4 in S35(?), I'm pretty sure
it was budget related. Jeff tries selling it as giving players with a
target on their back a better chance of making it to the end but doesn't
it make their target even bigger? It was a big reason why they tried to
take Rachel out at F4.

How is it budget-related? They still have an immunity challenge either
way. The only difference is that at the F4 tribal council they do a
fire challenge rather than having a vote. If anything, doing the fire
challenge adds to the cost since you now have pay to get that challenge
set up, and who knows how long the fire challenge will take? The actual
TC occurs either way.

I haven't looked it up, but it seems there were at least half a dozen or
so 2-2 ties in final four between S5 and S34 leading to a fire
challenge. I believe the first during this period was in S10.

Zeppo's referring to the long endurance challenges they used to do at
the end. Crew needs to be paid to wait around so having 10+ hour
challenges can add up costwise. Setting up fire is easy and usually ends
very quickly. Yes, TC still happens.

So about a 20% chance. If ties were a serious concern they would have
moved to a fire challenge years ago. IIRC, fans used to get excited when
they went to fire at F4 so Jeff had to known it was popular with fans.
The current format does cut out a challenge and a TC as they've made F4
a fast forward to F2 even if there are three people at FTC.

I like to see relay races and puzzles being solved as much as the
next person, but I prefer that there be a “level playing field”
established
at F4 by selecting a challenge that any of the remaining players have
a legitimate chance of winning if they want it badly enough. No matter
how hard they tried, neither Christeeny or Sue were going to win the
S47 final immunity challenge that was chosen.

Her downfall might have been not emotionally connecting a lot earlier.
She bonded with Kishan, and then felt terrible after voting for him.
Then, after the merge, she tried to get her mojo back by driving the
vote for Solomon. Even though she was successful in convincing
everybody else to vote for him, she spent the rest of the game “on
her back foot” IMO. We saw some scenes of her trying to build
trust with other players, but her reputation as a conniver who was
not to be trusted had already been established.

It was good she voted for Kishan. He sucked at the game and had a big
mouth. He was worse than Teneny. I still don't understand why she
thought Sol was a threat. From what I could tell, he seemed more than
willing to work with her. If she plays again, she needs to be her real
self and connect emotionally with people but like Rachel, not be afraid
to take people out.

This was an exciting finale. I expected Rachel to win but didn’t think
it would play out the way it did.
IMO, Rachel won S47 when Genevieve left the game. Everything
beyond that point was just her “victory lap”. :-)

The jury had some very good questions at FTC. It might have been the
edit, but I thought not much was directed at Sue.
But really, what could they ask her about?
Post by Brian Smith
They seemed to be
giving Rachel a lot of opportunities to confirm she was the best player
this season. Sam was very impressive.

FYI, Day 26 was Sue’s 59th birthday which she revealed to the jury. I
didn’t sense that any of them were too surprised to find out she’s not 45.
Sam certainly looked surprised.

To me it felt like Kyle would never vote for a woman unless he
had to.
Heh! You may be right about that.

I wish this had been longer. Mostly because I really enjoyed this group.
I did too. I think that this was the best cast of the “new era”. There
were
a variety of different “types”, and only one real dick who was,
fortunately,
dismissed fairly early in the game.
I agree with your cast assessment. With a couple of switches, I think
the casts have gotten progressively better each season of the New Era.

From worst to best, I would rank the seasons: 41-42-44-43-46-45-47

S41 and S42 were horrible because they catered to the Woke crowd.
